چکیده

Single-stage nitrogen removal from ammonium-rich streams has been studied extensively during the last decade in view of rising cost of traditional treatment methods and stringent discharge standards. This system has been developed under different names (DEMON, CANON, OLAND, SNAP and SNAD) to carry out simultaneous aerobic, anaerobic ammonium oxidizing and denitrification reactions in the same reactor. The maximal influent ammonia concentration is 431.7 ± 25.5 mg N/L, the minimal HRT is 4 hr, the maximal nitrogen loading rate is 5.44 kg N/mday and the maximal nitrogen removal rate is 2.57 kg N/mday for the process. The single-stage process has distinct advantages in terms of saving configuration, aeration and carbon sources. This paper reviews working principles, operational characteristics, efficiency of the singlestage system, key control factors of the process and its applications for nitrogen removal.

The effects of operating factors on the removal of total ammonia nitrogen and florfenicol antibiotic from synthetic trout fish farm wastewater through nanofiltration

An aquaculture system can be a potentially significant source of antibacterial compounds and ammonia in an aquatic environment. In this study, the removal of total ammonia nitrogen and florfenicol antibiotic from synthetic aqueous wastewater was assessed by applying a commercial TFC (thin film composite) polyamide nanofilter. The effects of pH (6.5-8.5), pressure (4-10 bar), concentration of to...

Outcompeting nitrite-oxidizing bacteria in single-stage nitrogen removal in sewage treatment plants: a model-based study.

This model-based study investigated the mechanisms and operational window for efficient repression of nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) in an autotrophic nitrogen removal process. The operation of a continuous single-stage granular sludge process was simulated for nitrogen removal from pretreated sewage at 10 °C. The effects of the residual ammonium concentration were explicitly analyzed with th...

Treatment of Ammonia Nitrogen Wastewater in Low Concentration by Two-Stage Ozonization

Ammonia nitrogen wastewater (about 100 mg/L) was treated by two-stage ozone oxidation method. The effects of ozone flow rate and initial pH on ammonia removal were studied, and the mechanism of ammonia nitrogen removal by ozone oxidation was discussed. After the primary stage of ozone oxidation, the ammonia removal efficiency reached 59.32% and pH decreased to 6.63 under conditions of 1 L/min o...

The efficiency of modified powdered activated carbon for removal of ammonia nitrogen from aqueous solution: a process optimization using RSM (Response Surface Methodology), adsorption isotherm and kinetic study

The objective of this study was to determine the performance of modified commercial powdered activated carbon (MCPAC) in removal of ammonia from aqueous solution. The effects of adsorbent dosage (0.5–1.5 g/L), ammonia concentration (100–200 mg/L), pH (3 to 9) and contact time (2 to 120 min) were examined. In this study, experiments were performed based on Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The...

Aeration control by monitoring the microbiological activity using fuzzy logic diagnosis and control. Application to a complete autotrophic nitrogen removal reactor

Complete Autotrophic Nitrogen Removal (CANR) is a novel process where ammonia is converted to nitrogen gas by different microbial groups. The performance of the process can be compromised by an unbalanced activity of the biomass caused by disturbances or non-optimal operational conditions. This contribution describes the development of a fuzzy-logic based system for both diagnosis and control o...
